What drives me

I love to code and explore — these aren't just things I do for work, they're hobbies too. Coming in every day to build software is like getting paid to do what I'd be doing anyway. That genuine curiosity is what keeps me sharp, creative, and always pushing to learn more.

My other driving force is my kids. Everything I do, I do to be the best I can for them — to make sure they never have to go without. They're the reason I push harder and aim higher.

When I'm not at work, you'll still find me tinkering. I love learning new technologies and programming languages, building AI tools to do creative and unexpected things, and diving into robotics and electronic hardware projects. I also enjoy 3D printing with my son and drawing with my daughter.

Neumont University building in Salt Lake City

Dec 2004 – Nov 2007

Where it started

B.S. Computer Science · Neumont College of Computer Science

Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, focused on the Microsoft development track.

Neumont University

Neumont’s accelerated, project-based program threw me straight into building real software from day one. The curriculum was heavily focused on the Microsoft stack — C#, .NET, MSSQL, and ASP.NET — which gave me a strong foundation in strongly-typed, enterprise-grade development.

Beyond the Microsoft track, the program covered algorithms, data structures, software architecture, and team-based project delivery on tight timelines. Every quarter culminated in a group project shipped to real stakeholders — a pace that taught me more about shipping software than any textbook could.

LANDesk Software — Internship (Apr – Sep 2007)

Through Neumont, I interned at LANDesk Software where I worked with the database team to build a tool that checked LANDesk DB installations for errors that could prevent their software from running. Also contributed to the Mac team building the management application installed on Mac machines. Objective-C, C#.NET, SQL Server 2005, TFS.

Dec 2007 – Jan 2010

First real job

Senior Analyst · Avanade

Built real-time dashboards and APIs for offshore oil wells at some of the biggest energy companies in the world.

Avanade

Avanade placed me on-site with major energy companies across Louisiana, where I cut my teeth on enterprise-grade Microsoft consulting.

Entergy — New Orleans, LA

Assisted with QA of their database infrastructure and internal networking sites at this nuclear power company. First taste of working inside a highly regulated environment.

Chevron — Covington, LA

Developed real-time dashboards for offshore oil wells. Built SharePoint tools enabling full dashboard customization from the command center, and developed the APIs that interfaced directly with offshore equipment to stream live well data into the dashboards.

Shell Oil — New Orleans, LA

Same mission, same stack. Built out the same real-time well monitoring and dashboard platform for Shell’s offshore operations, applying everything I’d learned at Chevron to deliver faster.

Dec 2013 – May 2015

Solutions consulting

Solutions Consultant · MATRIX Resources (now Motion Recruitment)

Worked directly with clients to deliver custom software development with the right technology and best practices.

MATRIX Resources

As a Solutions Consultant at MATRIX Resources (now Motion Recruitment), I worked with clients in the Irving, TX area to fulfill their needs for custom software development. It was my responsibility to ensure the right technology and best practices were in place to create stable, affordable, and easy-to-manage solutions.

Continued deepening my expertise across the Microsoft stack while broadening into client-facing solution architecture and delivery leadership.

Dec 2014 – Mar 2022

Building my own thing

Co-Founder · Idea42, LLC

Co-founded a full-service Agile development shop covering the entire SDLC — from design and development to QA and delivery.

Idea42, LLC

Co-founded Idea42 as a full Agile team with the complete scope of the SDLC covered — Development, Design, QA, and Scrum Master. We focused on .NET and the Microsoft stack, but our skills reached into iOS and Android environments as well.

We were well-versed in Azure cloud development and SaaS models, delivering end-to-end solutions for clients who needed professional, reliable software without the overhead of a large consultancy. Seven years of running a business taught me as much about leadership, client management, and product thinking as it did about code.
